The recent agreement between Iran and the international community provides a process towards improved relations and facilitating new business opportunities: According to the Guardian, “Iran could be the best emerging market for years to come.”
This is particularly true for Swiss-Iranian bi-lateral commercial development. During a visit to Tehran in February 2016, Swiss President Johann N. Schneider-Ammann and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced agreement for achieving closer relations between the two countries, including economic relations.
SIIF was established to help support the objectives outlined in the “Roadmap for the Enhancement of Bilateral Relations between the Swiss Confederation and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” issued simultaneously 27 February 2016, in Bern and Tehran. Paragraph 2 of the Roadmap covers “Economic and Financial Affairs,” and intention to:
1. Strengthen and diversify economic relations in order to expand the level of trade and investment, building on the common interest of their respective business communities;
2. Establish framework conditions for trade and investment in order to intensify and expand all forms of commercial and economic relations between the two countries;
3. Further explore areas of possible cooperation in view of the sustainable development of the economies;
4. Further and deepen cooperation in the field of intellectual property;
5. Examine ways of improving conditions for the development of direct contacts between economic operators and to encourage small and medium-sized enterprises to participate in trade and cooperation;
6. Hold consultations on issues related to trade and investments between the Participants; and,
7. Undertake the necessary steps in order to proceed to the ratification of the Trade Agreement signed on 24th May 2005.
In its position as a Swiss Civil Law Association, SIIF commits itself to support the Roadmap’s intentions affirmed by the highest levels of leadership in their respective countries, and to promote long-term, sustainable investment in Iran in accordance with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The Swiss-Iranian Investment Forum (SIIF) was founded in 2017 as a Civil Law association domiciled in Geneva, Switzerland. The purpose of SIIF is to facilitate economic exchanges between Switzerland and Iran, and promote better understanding of Iran’s emerging markets and financial reforms designed to protect international investments and business activities.
SIIF is mindful that past and present mutually respectful diplomatic and commercial relations between the two countries provide a firm foundation upon which to build, and further strengthen the future potential of this positive, bi-lateral relationship. SIIF sustainable development and responsible investment market priorities include Iran’s health, transportation, and environmental sectors.
SIIF plans include hosting a series of high-level conferences and seminars in Switzerland to provide guidance, comprehensive evaluation, analysis, and discussion of the global economic agenda. SIIF events will bring together global business leaders, experts, the media, and government officials to create favorable conditions for constructive dialogue, promotion of new ideas, and the creation of new, economically sustainable projects that support development of innovative social enterprises.
